My recommandation Practical Workflow for SAP. von Jocelyn Dart, Susan K - by SAP PRESS
I am doing workflow on SAP (not full time doing other stuff too ) since 2001 or 2002, and real source of information is this book I bought the three editions.
Appart from that just do one thing instanciate your workflow simply by using the testing tool then press on the workflow log icon go to the technical detail and you'll be able to check what is in the workflow container.
